This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Develop and oversee research focused on generator degradation, failure mechanisms, operational risks, maintenance challenges, emerging technologies, and gaps in industry research.
• Convert member needs and industry experiences into generator research projects, technical assistance, tools, reports, webcasts, workshops, and other practical resources.
• Establish relationships and coordinate technical activities with generator owners, utilities, manufacturers, service providers, consultants, laboratories, universities, and research organizations.
• Assist members with inquiries related to generator operation, testing, maintenance, condition assessment, unusual findings, and equipment reliability.
• Organize and lead technical sessions at EPRI-sponsored generator workshops, user-group meetings, webcasts, and industry events.
• Stay informed about developments and challenges in assigned technical areas.
• Provide support to EPRI sales personnel in Member Services and EPRI International.
• Effectively communicate strategies and outcomes through guidelines, reports, meetings, webcasts, workshops, and conferences.
• Supervise project teams to ensure that technical and financial milestones are achieved.
• Assist in the planning and execution of complex project work to fulfill member/client objectives; prepare and present research reports.
• Manage small to medium-sized projects, including overseeing budgets and resources.
• Lead proposal efforts and engage in new promotional initiatives.
• Identify research or service opportunities that address customer challenges and provide actionable insights for EPRI members.
• Offer guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
• A Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience is required.
• Familiarity with large rotating electrical machines, encompassing generator design, manufacturing, operation, inspection, testing, maintenance, repair, refurbishment, and life assessment.
• Proficient knowledge of excitation systems, automatic voltage regulators, generator protection, diagnostic testing, online monitoring, and condition-based maintenance.
• Understanding of generator auxiliary systems, including hydrogen cooling, seal oil, stator water cooling, lubrication, bearings, bushings, and electrical and mechanical monitoring systems.
• Capability to assess interactions among the generator, excitation system, auxiliary systems, prime mover, and electrical grid.
• Ability to work independently on technical activities without direct supervision.
• Competence to communicate strategies and results clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to coordinate work activities across various programs.
• Skill in organizing external and interdepartmental activities within established schedules and budgets.
• Proficiency in managing small to medium-sized projects, including budgets and resources, without direct personnel management responsibilities.
• Capability to influence project teams in the engineering aspects of technical work.
• Ability to cultivate relationships with technical advisors, generator owners, utilities, manufacturers, service providers, consultants, laboratories, universities, and research organizations.
