Technical Co-founder, CTO – AI Staffing Platform for Law Firms

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Develop the initial lines of production code, establish the technical direction, and oversee execution from start to finish.

• Fortify Ava's voice and workflow systems for reliable in-production performance. Set up core architecture, observability, and audit-trail standards.

• Create the internal infrastructure that enables the team to configure, monitor, and enhance AI performance without increasing engineering headcount.

• Manage the trade-offs between AI quality and cost-per-call, securing unit economics within the $499/month pricing framework.

• Serve as the technical spokesperson for the company in discussions with lawyers, partners, and investors.

• Transform pilots into paying clients, broaden the AI staff beyond the front desk, and initiate a journey towards custom and self-hosted models where legal and privacy constraints necessitate it.

• Recruit and guide the founding engineering team while laying the cultural groundwork for the company.

⛳️ Requirements

• Successfully deployed LLM-powered and voice systems in production environments where inaccurate outputs had significant implications.

• Full-stack expertise across applied LLMs, real-time voice and conversational AI, telephony, human-in-the-loop workflows, observability, and secure multi-tenant SaaS.

• Well-defined principles regarding reliability engineering, edge-case management, and the trade-offs between AI quality and cost-per-call.

• Proven experience in building managed and service-intensive platforms, with the ability to scale delivery without increasing engineering resources.

• Ready to function as a principal — including making statements like "this won't scale" or "this isn't ready" when product integrity is at stake.

• Strongly preferred: previous experience as a founder or in early-stage technical leadership; background in legal tech, healthcare, or another trust-sensitive domain; ability to self-host custom models to fulfill legal and privacy requirements.
