Tech Lead – Mobile Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania.

📋 Description

• Lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance to the mobile platform team, focusing on enabling product teams to work as efficiently as possible through clear prioritization of platform initiatives.

• Define, implement, and maintain engineering standards across mobile security, observability, performance, resilience, and release quality, consistently balancing the improvement of standards with minimal disruption to product team velocity.

• Act as a hands-on technical leader in the development and upkeep of shared mobile platform capabilities utilizing React Native and TypeScript.

• Contribute to architectural decisions concerning React Native, native modules, and integrations with Kotlin, Swift, Objective-C, and Java.

• Own and enhance CI/CD pipelines, build reliability, release workflows, and deployment processes, which are critical responsibilities for this role.

• Oversee mobile platform-level observability and crash reporting, including tools for logging, analytics, exception monitoring, and production stability; general service alerting is managed by product domain teams.

• Collaborate with product feature teams to ensure releases are executed smoothly, meet quality standards, and comply with regulatory and compliance requirements.

• Drive enhancements in automated testing practices, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing methodologies that increase confidence in release quality.

• Manage and coordinate production incident management and release activities, ensuring timely resolutions, clear communications, and robust operational control.

• Work with design and product teams to evolve and maintain shared UI components, platform standards, and mobile design system capabilities.

• Promote the adoption of new tools, processes, and standards across product teams through mentoring, documentation, and training, ensuring that improvements are incorporated into practice rather than merely documented.

• Identify and pursue opportunities to enhance platform stability, developer productivity, and the long-term maintainability of the mobile application portfolio.

• Advocate secure application development practices and support compliance-aligned delivery within a regulated banking environment.

• Assess tooling evolution as appropriate, including potential future considerations such as transitioning to Expo, in close collaboration with the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in mobile engineering, with substantial time spent in roles such as Tech Lead, Mobile Platform Lead, Staff, or Principal Engineer.

• 4+ years of hands-on experience developing and maintaining mobile applications with React Native and TypeScript, which form the core of the stack.

• 4+ years of experience in native mobile development (Kotlin, Swift, Objective-C, or Java), essential for maintaining and supporting existing native libraries.

• Own and enhance CI/CD pipelines, build reliability, release workflows, and broader developer workflows; this is a crucial requirement for the role.

• Strong comprehension of mobile architecture, including React Native bridges, native modules, and platform-level architectural decisions.

• Proven experience in owning or significantly improving mobile platform observability, crash reporting (e.g., Firebase Crashlytics, Sentry, Datadog), exception monitoring, and management of production incidents.

• Extensive experience with mobile testing methods, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing (e.g., Detox, Appium, Jest) to boost release confidence.

• Solid understanding of mobile engineering standards related to performance, resilience, reliability, and quality.

• 1+ year of experience leading a mobile platform team, with a proven record of responsibility for technical direction, mentoring, and engineering standards.

• A history of understanding product team needs and prioritizing platform work to eliminate blockers and expedite product delivery.

• Proven capability to drive the adoption of new tools and processes across teams through documentation, training, and hands-on mentoring, rather than just defining standards.

• Experience in setting and upholding a high-quality standard for a mobile codebase while managing the ongoing balance between standards and team velocity.

• Strong cross-functional collaboration abilities across engineering, product, design, and, when relevant, compliance and regulatory stakeholders.

• Prior experience leading at least one significant technical or platform project from start to finish.

• Experience managing or directly leading engineers, with a people-first approach to technical leadership.
