Tech Lead – Mobile Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance to the mobile platform team, focusing on enabling product teams to operate efficiently through clear prioritization of platform initiatives.

• Define, implement, and uphold engineering standards across mobile security, observability, performance, resilience, and release quality, while continuously balancing the enhancement of standards with minimal impact on product team velocity.

• Serve as a hands-on technical leader in the development and maintenance of shared mobile platform capabilities using React Native and TypeScript.

• Contribute to architectural decisions related to React Native, native modules, and integrations across Kotlin, Swift, Objective-C, and Java.

• Own and drive enhancements to CI/CD pipelines, build reliability, release workflows, and deployment processes, a critical responsibility for this role.

• Oversee mobile platform-level observability and crash reporting, including tools for logging, analytics, exception monitoring, and production stability; general service alerting is managed by product domain teams.

• Collaborate with product feature teams to ensure releases are delivered smoothly, meet quality expectations, and align with regulatory and compliance requirements.

• Propel improvements in automated testing practices, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing approaches that bolster confidence in release quality.

• Manage and coordinate production incident management and release activities, ensuring timely resolution, clear communication, and strong operational control.

• Work with design and product teams to evolve and maintain shared UI components, platform standards, and mobile design system capabilities.

• Promote the adoption of new tools, processes, and standards across product teams through mentoring, documentation, and training, ensuring improvements are integrated into practice, not just defined on paper.

• Identify and pursue opportunities to enhance platform stability, developer productivity, and the long-term maintainability of the mobile application ecosystem.

• Advocate for secure application development practices and support compliance-aligned delivery within a regulated banking environment.

• Assess tooling evolution where relevant, including potential future considerations such as a transition to Expo, in close collaboration with the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in mobile engineering, including significant time in roles such as Tech Lead, Mobile Platform Lead, Staff, or Principal Engineer.

• 4+ years of practical experience in building and maintaining mobile applications using React Native and TypeScript, which form the core of the stack.

• 4+ years of experience in native mobile development (Kotlin, Swift, Objective-C, or Java), essential for maintaining and supporting existing native libraries.

• Own and drive improvements to CI/CD pipelines, build reliability, release processes, deployment workflows, and broader developer workflows; this is a vital requirement for the position.

• Strong understanding of mobile architecture, including React Native bridges, native modules, and platform-level architectural decisions.

• Experience in owning or significantly enhancing mobile platform observability, crash reporting (such as Firebase Crashlytics, Sentry, Datadog), exception monitoring, and production incident management.

• Extensive experience with mobile testing strategies, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing (e.g., Detox, Appium, Jest) to enhance release confidence.

• Solid understanding of mobile engineering standards concerning performance, resilience, reliability, and quality.

• 1+ year of experience in leading a mobile platform team, with proven responsibility for technical direction, mentoring, and engineering standards.

• Proven track record of understanding product team needs and prioritizing platform work to eliminate blockers and expedite product delivery.

• Demonstrated ability to promote the adoption of new tools and processes across teams through documentation, training, and hands-on mentoring, not just by defining standards.

• Experience in setting and maintaining a high-quality standard for a mobile codebase while managing the ongoing balance between standards and team velocity.

• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills across engineering, product, design, and, when applicable, compliance and regulatory stakeholders.

• Prior experience leading at least one significant technical or platform project from start to finish.

• Experience managing or directly leading engineers, with a people-first approach to technical leadership.
