Tech Lead – AI Lab

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in France.

📋 Description

• Join our AI Lab as a Tech Lead and assist Qonto in creating an AI-first product that revolutionizes the way over 600,000 businesses handle their finances.

• Devote the majority of your time to what you are passionate about — shipping — while offering technical guidance and light mentorship that transforms a high-velocity squad into a high-quality one.

• Collaborate with Sophie, our AI Lab Manager, to establish the technical standards for a 13-person cross-functional team as we expand from a single AI agent to multiple agents.

• Directly oversee 5 engineers across Backend, Web, and Mobile — leading by project and track rather than by stack — in line with our ambitious goal: launching one new agent every 6 weeks.

• Serve as the technical liaison between the AI Lab and the broader organization — grasp how features are developed across Qonto, bring that insight into the Lab, and ensure our agent developments integrate seamlessly with the overall product.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in Python with a proven leadership background: Strong production experience in Python, along with experience in setting the technical direction within a team — knowledge of Go and/or Ruby is advantageous for Qonto service integrations.

• IC-first mindset: You have progressed into a lead or management position but genuinely wish to continue coding. 70% coding time is not a limitation — it’s what attracts you to this position.

• AI-native workflow: Regular use of AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot) is a fundamental expectation. You utilize them yourself and set a positive example for your team.

• Curiosity about AI rather than strict expertise: Production experience with AI is not mandatory — what is essential is a genuine curiosity, a spirit of active experimentation, and the desire to build things even beyond work hours.

• Coaching skills: You possess the ability to nurture junior engineers — provide impactful feedback, identify growth opportunities, and conduct progress reviews that genuinely drive improvement.

• Excellent communication: You clearly express technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders and navigate cross-functional teams with ease.
