This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Wisconsin.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the entire process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist engineers in overcoming obstacles and investigate ongoing issues.
• Standardize solutions and streamline duplicated shared components.
• Ensure that shared components are tested, organized, and maintainable.
• Drive improvements in team processes.
• Minimize the manual interventions required for successful releases.
• Resolve recurring issues by modifying the underlying systems.
• Shift verification processes earlier by expanding automated checks.
• Lead planning sessions and direct the team's focus on work that necessitates decision-making.
• Define the depth of reviews and the necessary approvals.
• Engage in discussions related to Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with appropriately challenging tasks and learning opportunities.
• Write and review code while actively owning features.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership experience or ownership of significant projects while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Recognize the importance of testing and the approach to writing tests, including limitations.
• A significant contribution made to a team that continued after your departure, along with an honest account of the effort it took to implement.
• Some familiarity with encouraging changes in work habits among team members, accepting the resulting friction.
• An understanding of which changes require extensive reviews and which do not, supported by an argument based on system functionality.
• A proven history of developing solutions that are actively used by your team.
• Capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents.
• Strong intuition for product design, user empathy, and a desire to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications provided.
• A self-motivated approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Completion of multiple technical interviews along with an assessment on a real codebase.
