This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Take full ownership of significant features from conception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist team members by identifying and resolving technical challenges.
• Standardize shared solutions and eliminate redundant implementations.
• Ensure that shared code is thoroughly tested, clear, and maintainable.
• Recognize and implement enhancements to team workflows.
• Minimize the manual effort required for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.
• Broaden automated verification processes and integrate testing earlier in the development cycle.
• Facilitate planning sessions and direct the team's focus towards tasks that require decision-making.
• Set appropriate review levels and sign-off procedures.
• Engage in discussions related to Product, Design, and Engineering, and communicate team constraints proactively.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and deliver nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with impactful projects and dedicated learning opportunities.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major feature while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• An understanding of the significance of testing and strategies for writing effective tests, including limitations.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement ceased, along with a candid assessment of the effort it required.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role, including encouraging changes in workflows and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes warrant thorough review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A history of developing features that are utilized by the team, rather than solely those that enhance personal efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond personal interactions.
• A strong sense of product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• A proactive approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond the initial specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Successful completion of several technical interviews along with an assessment of a real codebase.
