This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Take ownership of major features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and deliver constructive feedback to peers.
• Assist engineers in overcoming challenges by investigating and resolving complex issues.
• Identify reusable solutions within the team and streamline duplicated implementations.
• Ensure shared code remains tested, organized, well-maintained, and consolidated.
• Drive improvements in team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention during release processes.
• Tackle recurring issues by enhancing underlying systems.
• Shift verification processes left and broaden the scope of automated checks.
• Facilitate planning sessions to ensure the team focuses on tasks that require decision-making.
• Identify appropriate levels of review and necessary approvals.
• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering, and communicate team constraints proactively.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for quality assurance.
• Mentor early-career engineers with a focus on learning and professional development.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of significant projects while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background processes.
• Strong understanding of the significance of testing and strategies for writing effective tests, including limitations.
• A noteworthy contribution you made to a team that persisted after your involvement ended, along with an honest assessment of the effort required to achieve it.
• Familiarity with the less favorable aspects of the role: encouraging colleagues to adapt their working methods and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes require thorough review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A history of developing solutions that are utilized by the team, not just those that enhance personal productivity.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond personal methods.
• An intuitive understanding of product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the application and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Experience building, maintaining, or contributing to open source Android projects (bonus).
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS (bonus).
