This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Take ownership of significant features from conception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for key functionalities.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback to foster team learning.
• Assist team members in overcoming obstacles by investigating stalled tasks.
• Identify reusable solutions within the team and promote their implementation.
• Maintain clear, tested, and consolidated shared components.
• Lead improvements to team processes and operational methods.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure correct releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by altering the foundational setup.
• Shift verification processes left by broadening automated checks.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on work that necessitates decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and sign-off responsibilities.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams, addressing team constraints proactively.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for Quality Assurance.
• Mentor early-career engineers by assigning them meaningful tasks and learning opportunities.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership roles or ownership of major features while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background tasks.
• Understanding the significance of testing and strategies for writing tests, including limitations.
• An example of a process you introduced to a team that remained effective after your departure, along with an honest assessment of the effort involved.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging colleagues to alter their work methods and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A history of developing solutions that benefit the entire team, not just those that enhance individual productivity.
• The capability to articulate how your team integrates with AI agents, beyond personal methods.
• Intuition for product design, user empathy, and a passion for advancing Android UI/UX beyond basic specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the application and codebase beyond the provided specifications.
