This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Take full ownership of significant features, collaborating closely with the design team from concept through to launch.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist team members by identifying and resolving technical obstacles.
• Recognize and standardize reusable solutions for the team.
• Maintain well-tested, transparent, and consolidated shared components.
• Propel modifications to team processes.
• Minimize the manual effort needed for accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues at the fundamental system level.
• Shift verification earlier by broadening automated checks.
• Conduct planning and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish review requirements and sign-off protocols.
• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Manage critical issues, take charge of feature releases, and deliver nightly builds for Quality Assurance.
• Mentor early-career team members by providing meaningful tasks and learning opportunities.
• Write code, review code, and actively participate in feature ownership.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major product while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Experience in deploying and maintaining background audio or other long-duration background tasks.
• Awareness of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations.
• A successful initiative you introduced that continued to thrive after your involvement ended, along with an honest assessment of the effort required to achieve this.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits and managing the resultant friction.
• Insight into which modifications require extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven history of developing solutions that are actively utilized by the team, rather than solely those that enhance your efficiency.
• The capacity to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your individual contributions.
• A strong sense of product design, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the application and codebase beyond what is specified.
