This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Take ownership of significant features from conception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive insights.
• Assist team members in overcoming technical obstacles.
• Streamline shared implementations and maintain well-tested, clear shared components.
• Lead initiatives to modify team processes and working methodologies.
• Minimize the need for manual interventions for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Expand automated verification processes and incorporate testing earlier in the development cycle.
• Conduct planning sessions and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and sign-off protocols.
• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Manage critical challenges, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by offering learning opportunities.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership roles or ownership of significant projects while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in deploying and maintaining background audio or other long-running processes.
• Strong understanding of the importance of testing and approaches to writing tests, including limitations.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement, along with a candid account of the effort required to achieve that.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging team members to adapt their workflows and managing the resulting friction.
• A perspective on which changes necessitate thorough review and which do not, justified by the system's functionality.
• A history of developing tools or features that are genuinely utilized by your team, not just those that enhance your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your individual approach.
• A strong intuition for product design, empathy for users, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A proactive attitude toward enhancing the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Experience with open-source Android projects, iOS, Web, or NodeJS is considered a bonus.
