This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to deployment, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, enhance, and uphold reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist engineers in overcoming technical challenges and obstacles.
• Standardize successful implementations for the entire team to utilize.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Spearhead changes to team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention in order to ensure accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by refining underlying systems.
• Shift verification earlier in the process and broaden the scope of automated checks.
• Organize planning sessions and prioritize work that necessitates decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and approval workflows.
• Engage in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and deliver nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through meaningful projects and dedicated learning time.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership experience or ownership of a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations of coverage.
• An example of an initiative you implemented within a team that was sustained after your involvement ended, along with an honest evaluation of the costs incurred to achieve that.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits and managing the ensuing friction.
• Insight into which changes warrant thorough review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven track record of developing tools that are actively used by your team, rather than solely those that enhance your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond just your personal contributions.
• An intuitive grasp of product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond the basic specifications.
• A self-driven approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond what is detailed in the specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
