This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to deployment, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist team members in overcoming technical challenges and removing obstacles.
• Standardize successful implementations within the team.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Advocate for changes to team processes.
• Minimize the manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Resolve recurring issues by improving foundational systems.
• Increase automated verification and prioritize early testing.
• Facilitate planning sessions and concentrate the team's efforts on unresolved tasks.
• Establish review requirements and sign-off protocols.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for Quality Assurance.
• Mentor early-career engineers with meaningful projects and learning opportunities.
• Write code, review code, and take a hands-on approach to feature ownership.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leading a team or owning a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• A strong understanding of the significance of tests and the strategies for writing them, including what cannot be covered.
• An example of an initiative you implemented that remained effective after your involvement, along with an honest account of the costs incurred to achieve it.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging people to revise their work habits and managing the resultant friction.
• A perspective on which changes require thorough review and which do not, grounded in an understanding of the system's functionality.
• A proven history of developing solutions that are genuinely utilized by your team, rather than solely those that enhance your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, in addition to your personal contributions.
• An intuitive grasp of product design, user empathy, and a determination to advance Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A proactive approach to enhancing the application and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Completion of several technical interviews along with an assessment on an actual codebase.
