This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Take ownership of significant features from conception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist team members by resolving technical challenges.
• Recognize and standardize reusable solutions throughout the team.
• Maintain shared components that are well-tested, clear, and consolidated.
• Determine when the team's processes need to evolve and lead that transformation.
• Minimize the need for manual interventions for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by improving the foundational setup.
• Enhance verification processes by increasing automated checks prior to QA.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on tasks that necessitate decisions.
• Establish review levels and required approvals.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering, effectively communicating team limitations.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by assigning them meaningful work and dedicated learning time.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leading a team or managing a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations on coverage.
• An instance of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted even after your involvement diminished, along with an honest evaluation of the costs involved in achieving that outcome.
• Comfort in requesting changes in how colleagues work and managing the ensuing friction.
• Insight into which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on an understanding of the system's functions.
• A history of creating solutions that your team finds genuinely useful, rather than just those that enhance your own efficiency.
• Capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not only your individual practices.
• A strong sense of product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond basic specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the application and codebase beyond the project specifications.
