This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Take ownership of significant Android features from conception to release, collaborating closely with Design.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist engineers by investigating and resolving complex issues.
• Standardize successful implementations for the entire team to utilize.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Enhance team processes and determine when work methods should be modified.
• Minimize manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Address recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Broaden automated verification and prioritize testing earlier in the process.
• Conduct planning focused on unresolved decisions.
• Establish review requirements and ownership of approvals.
• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and supply nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with learning opportunities and development time.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Comprehension of the importance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations on coverage.
• An initiative introduced to a team that persisted after the end of implementation ownership.
• Comfort in requesting changes in work practices and managing the resulting friction.
• Ability to identify which changes warrant thorough review.
• Proven history of building solutions utilized by the broader team.
• Capability to articulate how the team collaborates with AI agents.
• Intuition in product design, user empathy, and a passion for enhancing Android UI/UX.
• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond defined specifications.
• Strong communication skills.
