This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist team members in overcoming technical challenges.
• Standardize reusable solutions within the team.
• Ensure shared components are well-tested, clear, and consolidated.
• Lead initiatives to improve team processes.
• Minimize the need for manual interventions during releases.
• Address recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Increase automated verification and advance testing earlier within the development cycle.
• Organize planning sessions and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and approval workflows.
• Engage in discussions related to Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career team members by providing learning opportunities.
• Complete multiple technical interviews and assess a real codebase during the hiring process.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leading a team or managing a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-lasting background processes.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including understanding what cannot be tested.
• An example of a contribution you made to a team that remained effective after your departure, along with an honest evaluation of the effort required to achieve this.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in workflows and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on the functionality of the system.
• A history of developing tools and systems that your team actively utilized, rather than just those that improved your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your personal approach.
• An intuitive sense of product design, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specified requirements.
• A self-motivated drive to enhance the application and codebase beyond what is detailed in the specifications.
