This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Take full ownership of significant Android features alongside the design team, overseeing every stage from decision-making to release.
• Maintain and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback to team members.
• Help remove obstacles for engineers and resolve any team challenges.
• Standardize reusable implementations and oversee shared components.
• Optimize team processes and determine when workflow adjustments are necessary.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Expand automated verification and shift testing earlier in the development cycle.
• Lead planning sessions and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish review requirements and sign-off protocols.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, take charge of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor junior engineers in their development.
• Write, review, and take hands-on responsibility for code and features.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including a background in team leadership or major feature ownership while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-duration background tasks.
• A solid grasp of the significance of testing and strategies for writing effective tests, including limitations.
• A notable contribution you made to a team that persisted after your involvement, along with a candid assessment of the effort required to implement it.
• Some familiarity with encouraging changes in work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• An ability to discern which changes necessitate thorough review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A history of building solutions that are utilized by your team, not just those that enhance your own speed.
• Capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents.
• An intuitive sense for product design, user empathy, and a commitment to elevating Android UI/UX beyond basic specifications.
• A self-motivated approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
