This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Vermont.
• Take ownership of major features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Oversee, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist engineers in overcoming obstacles and resolving stalled technical tasks.
• Identify reusable solutions within the team and promote their adoption.
• Ensure shared code is well-tested, clear, and consolidated.
• Lead initiatives to refine team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize the need for manual interventions during release processes.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Enhance the verification process by increasing automated testing efforts.
• Facilitate planning sessions focused on decision-making work.
• Establish appropriate review levels and sign-off protocols.
• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by providing learning opportunities.
• Minimum of 5 years in software engineering, including leadership experience or ownership of significant surfaces while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and sustaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations of test coverage.
• A successful initiative you implemented within a team that persisted after your involvement ceased, along with a candid account of the costs incurred to achieve it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in how others work and managing the resulting friction.
• Ability to discern which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• Proven history of developing solutions that are utilized by the team, rather than solely those that enhance personal efficiency.
• Capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your personal contributions.
• Strong product design intuition, user empathy, and motivation to advance Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Successful completion of multiple technical interviews and an assessment on an actual codebase.
