This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Utah.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to deployment in collaboration with the design team.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Remove obstacles for engineers and investigate any stalled tasks.
• Standardize reusable solutions within the team and eliminate redundant implementations.
• Ensure shared components are tested, comprehensible, and maintainable.
• Drive changes to team processes.
• Minimize manual intervention necessary for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Broaden automated verification and shift testing to earlier stages of development.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on unresolved decisions.
• Establish appropriate review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly QA builds.
• Mentor early-career engineers through meaningful tasks and learning opportunities.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant component while maintaining hands-on involvement.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Understanding of the value of tests and how to approach writing them, including limitations of coverage.
• An example of a change you introduced to a team that persisted beyond your advocacy, along with an honest assessment of the effort involved.
• Comfort with encouraging team members to alter their workflows and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight on which changes require thorough review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• Proven history of developing tools that your team actively utilizes.
• Ability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents.
• Product design intuition, user empathy, and a desire to elevate Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• Self-motivated to enhance the application and codebase beyond given specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Experience with open-source Android projects is an advantage.
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS is a plus.
