Team Lead, Android Core Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of significant Android features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.

• Manage, enhance, and uphold reliability metrics for essential features.

• Review pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.

• Assist engineers in overcoming obstacles and investigate any stalled tasks.

• Standardize successful implementations for use across the team.

• Maintain shared components through thorough testing, documentation, and consolidation efforts.

• Identify and implement enhancements to team processes.

• Minimize the manual intervention required for successful releases.

• Address recurring issues by modifying the underlying setup.

• Shift verification earlier in the process by expanding automated checks prior to QA.

• Conduct planning sessions focused on work that requires decision-making.

• Establish review requirements and approval workflows.

• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering, communicating team constraints early on.

• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.

• Mentor early-career engineers by providing meaningful work and learning opportunities.

• Write and review code while remaining actively involved in development.

• Participate in technical interviews and assess real codebases.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant feature while remaining hands-on.

• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.

• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.

• Understanding of the importance of testing and approaches to writing tests, including limitations of coverage.

• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement, and an honest account of the effort required to achieve that.

• Comfort with encouraging team members to change their work habits and managing the resulting friction.

• A perspective on which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on the functionality of the system.

• Proven track record of creating valuable solutions that the team actively utilizes.

• Ability to articulate how the team collaborates with AI agents.

• Intuition for product design, empathy for users, and a commitment to elevate Android UI/UX beyond basic specifications.

• Self-motivated to enhance the app and codebase beyond existing specifications.

• Excellent communication skills are essential.
