This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist engineers by identifying and resolving obstacles.
• Create standardized reusable solutions and streamline duplicate implementations.
• Ensure shared code is tested, clear, well-maintained, and reusable.
• Drive modifications to team processes and methods of operation.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by enhancing foundational systems.
• Move verification processes earlier in the workflow by increasing automated testing.
• Oversee planning and prioritize tasks requiring decision-making.
• Establish review requirements and sign-off protocols.
• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Manage critical issues, take responsibility for feature releases, and deliver nightly builds for QA.
• Guide early-career engineers by providing meaningful work and dedicated learning opportunities.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including experience in leading a team or owning a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background tasks.
• A solid understanding of the significance of tests and the methodology for writing them, including limitations in coverage.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement ceased, along with an honest assessment of the effort required to achieve that.
• Some comfort with the challenging aspects of the role: encouraging colleagues to alter their work practices and managing the resulting friction.
• An understanding of which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A history of developing solutions that your team genuinely utilized, not just those that improved your own efficiency.
• Ability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, rather than focusing solely on personal practices.
• Strong product design intuition, user empathy, and a commitment to elevate Android UI/UX beyond standard specifications.
• A proactive approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Completion of several technical interviews, along with an evaluation on a real codebase.
