This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take full ownership of significant features from conception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, enhance, and uphold reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.
• Assist engineers by removing obstacles and troubleshooting technical challenges.
• Standardize reusable components across the team.
• Ensure shared code remains tested, clear, well-maintained, and consolidated.
• Drive improvements in team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying foundational systems.
• Advance verification processes and expand automated testing.
• Facilitate planning sessions focused on tasks requiring decisions.
• Establish suitable review levels and approval criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams, highlighting team constraints early on.
• Address critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-focused tasks and development time.
• Conduct technical interviews and assess real codebases during the recruitment process.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other lengthy background operations.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations on coverage.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after you ceased promoting it, along with an honest assessment of the effort involved.
• Some familiarity with the more challenging aspects of the role: persuading team members to alter their work habits and navigating the resulting friction.
• An informed perspective on which changes necessitate extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A history of developing solutions that your team actively utilized, rather than solely those that improved your own efficiency.
• The capacity to articulate how your team interacts with AI agents, beyond your personal experiences.
• An intuition for product design, empathy for users, and a passion for enhancing Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A proactive approach to improving the app and codebase beyond what's specified.
• Exceptional communication skills.
