This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Take full ownership of major features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for critical features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback to team members.
• Assist engineers by investigating and resolving any work bottlenecks.
• Identify successful implementations that should be adopted as team standards and advocate for their usage.
• Maintain shared components to ensure they are well-tested, clear, and consolidated.
• Lead initiatives to improve team processes.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention during release processes.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.
• Enhance verification by expanding automated checks early in the development cycle.
• Facilitate planning sessions and direct the team’s focus on unresolved decisions.
• Establish appropriate review levels and sign-off requirements.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams, communicating team constraints proactively.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for quality assurance.
• Mentor and provide learning opportunities for early-career engineers.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, with a background in leading a team or owning a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• A solid understanding of the importance of testing and how to approach writing tests, including limitations.
• An example of a practice you introduced to a team that continued after your involvement, along with an honest assessment of what it took to achieve this.
• Comfortable with prompting colleagues to change their work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes require thorough review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven history of developing solutions that are genuinely utilized by the team.
• Ability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents.
• A strong sense of product design intuition, user empathy, and a desire to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• Self-motivated to enhance the app and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Outstanding communication skills.
• Completion of several technical interviews along with an assessment on a live codebase.
• Submission of portfolio and LinkedIn links is required with the application.
