This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Take ownership of key features from conception to release, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist team members by resolving technical obstacles.
• Recognize successful implementations that should set team standards and promote their adoption.
• Oversee shared components through thorough testing, documentation, and consolidation efforts.
• Initiate adjustments to team processes as necessary.
• Minimize manual interventions needed for successful releases.
• Resolve recurring issues by altering underlying systems.
• Promote earlier verification by increasing automated checks prior to QA.
• Facilitate planning sessions to ensure team focus on tasks requiring decision-making.
• Establish suitable review levels and necessary sign-offs.
• Engage in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering teams, highlighting team constraints early on.
• Manage critical issues, take responsibility for feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by offering learning opportunities.
• Write, review, and take ownership of production code while leading the team.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including a background in leading a team or overseeing a major component while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other extended background tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and approaches to writing them, including limitations on coverage.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement, along with a candid account of the effort required to achieve it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the job: encouraging team members to modify their working methods and managing the resulting friction.
• A perspective on which changes necessitate extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven record of developing solutions that your team actively utilizes, not solely those that enhance your own efficiency.
• The ability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond personal practices.
• An intuitive understanding of product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond basic specifications.
• A self-motivated drive to enhance the application and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Strong communication abilities.
• Bonus: Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open-source Android projects.
• Bonus: Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS.
