Team Lead, Android Core Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of significant features from conception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.

• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.

• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.

• Assist engineers by resolving blockages and directly investigating issues.

• Recognize reusable solutions within the team and streamline duplicated implementations.

• Ensure that shared components are well-tested, clear, and reusable.

• Spearhead modifications to team processes.

• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure accurate releases.

• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the underlying systems.

• Broaden automated verification and advance testing earlier in the development timeline.

• Manage planning and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.

• Establish review requirements and define approval responsibilities.

• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering while conveying team limitations.

• Address critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.

• Mentor early-career engineers by offering valuable work experiences and learning opportunities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including time spent leading a team or managing a major project while remaining hands-on.

• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.

• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other forms of long-running background tasks.

• Recognize the significance of testing and understand how to effectively write tests, including limitations on what can be tested.

• Proven experience in implementing a process or practice that was successfully adopted by a team.

• Comfortable in encouraging changes in work habits and managing any resulting tensions.

• Ability to discern which modifications require extensive review and which do not.

• A history of developing solutions utilized by the entire team.

• Capable of explaining the team's interaction with AI agents.

• Possess product design intuition, user empathy, and a commitment to elevating Android UI/UX beyond standard specifications.

• Self-motivated to enhance the app and codebase beyond the given specifications.

• Exceptional communication skills.

• Completion of several technical interviews along with an assessment on an actual codebase.

• Submission of a portfolio and LinkedIn links with the application.
