This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Take ownership of significant features from conception to launch in collaboration with the design team.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist engineers by diagnosing and resolving technical challenges.
• Standardize effective implementations for use across the team.
• Ensure shared components are well-tested, clear, and consolidated.
• Identify and execute enhancements to team processes.
• Minimize the manual effort necessary for successful releases.
• Resolve recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Increase automated verification so that nightly builds are sent to QA for validation.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues and take ownership of feature releases.
• Provide nightly builds to the QA team.
• Mentor early-career engineers by assigning meaningful work and allowing time for learning.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership experience or ownership of a significant project while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other lengthy background tasks.
• A solid understanding of the importance of testing and strategies for writing them, including limitations on coverage.
• Experience in introducing processes or practices that continue to be utilized post-implementation.
• Comfort in requesting changes to workflows and managing any resulting resistance.
• Ability to discern which changes necessitate extensive review and which do not.
• A history of developing tools or systems utilized by the wider team.
• Capability to articulate how the team collaborates with AI agents.
• Strong intuition for product design, user empathy, and a passion for enhancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• Self-motivated to improve the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
