Team Lead, Android Core Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.

• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.

• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.

• Assist team members in overcoming technical challenges and obstacles.

• Recognize reusable solutions and standardize their use across the team.

• Ensure the maintenance of well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared code.

• Propel enhancements in team processes.

• Minimize the manual interventions needed for successful releases.

• Resolve recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.

• Move verification earlier in the process and expand automated testing.

• Conduct planning sessions and prioritize tasks that necessitate decision-making.

• Establish appropriate review levels and sign-off protocols.

• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering.

• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and supply nightly builds for QA.

• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-focused tasks and development opportunities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership in a team or ownership of a significant surface while remaining hands-on.

• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.

• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background tasks.

• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including aspects that cannot be tested.

• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement ceased, along with an honest assessment of the effort required to achieve it.

• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits and managing the friction that may arise.

• Insight into which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on the functionality of the system.

• A proven history of developing solutions that are genuinely utilized by the team, rather than solely those that enhance personal efficiency.

• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond just your personal involvement.

• An intuitive sense of product design, user empathy, and the motivation to advance Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.

• A self-driven approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond what is defined in the specifications.

• Strong communication abilities.
