This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Take ownership of significant Android core product features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the Design team.
• Manage, enhance, and uphold reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist engineers by investigating and resolving technical challenges.
• Standardize reusable solutions and merge duplicate implementations.
• Ensure shared components are tested, well-documented, maintained, and consolidated.
• Drive enhancements to team processes and engineering methodologies.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Expand automated verification processes and shift testing left.
• Facilitate planning and guide the team’s focus toward work that requires decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and sign-off procedures.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering, effectively communicating team constraints.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by providing appropriate learning opportunities.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background processes.
• Understanding the importance of testing and how to effectively approach writing tests, including limitations.
• A significant contribution to a team that remained effective after you stepped back, along with a candid assessment of the effort involved.
• Some experience in encouraging team members to alter their working methods and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes necessitate extensive review and which do not, based on the system’s functionality.
• A proven record of developing solutions that your team actively utilized, not just those that increased your own efficiency.
• Capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your personal methods.
• A strong sense of product design intuition, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Exceptional communication skills.
