This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Take ownership of significant Android core-product features from inception to release while collaborating with Design.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Write code, evaluate pull requests, and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist engineers by investigating and resolving complex issues.
• Identify reusable solutions within the team and consolidate overlapping implementations.
• Maintain shared components ensuring they are tested, clear, and reusable.
• Enhance team processes and engineering methodologies.
• Minimize manual intervention needed for proper releases.
• Address recurring issues by altering the foundational setup.
• Advance verification by expanding automated checks prior to QA.
• Conduct planning sessions centered on tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish appropriate review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering while communicating team constraints early on.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with meaningful tasks and learning opportunities.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-duration background tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including aspects that cannot be tested.
• Proven experience introducing lasting practices or process changes within a team.
• Comfort in requesting changes in work habits and managing resultant friction.
• Ability to discern which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on system behavior.
• History of building tools and solutions that the team has utilized.
• Capability to explain how the team interacts with AI agents.
• Intuition for product design, user empathy, and a drive to enhance Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• Self-motivation to advance the app and codebase beyond set specifications.
• Strong communication abilities.
• Submission of a portfolio and LinkedIn links is requested during the application process.
• Bonus: experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open-source Android projects.
• Bonus: familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS.
