This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Take ownership of significant Android features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the Design team.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and provide constructive feedback on development.
• Assist engineers in overcoming obstacles and address team challenges directly.
• Identify and establish standardized reusable implementations within the team.
• Ensure shared code is well-tested, clear, and consolidated.
• Spearhead improvements to team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Broaden automated verification efforts and advance testing earlier in the development cycle.
• Facilitate planning sessions focused on tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish review requirements and sign-off protocols.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, take charge of feature releases, and deliver nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with impactful projects and dedicated learning time.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, with proven leadership in a team or ownership of a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background processes.
• A strong understanding of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations of test coverage.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to the team that remained effective after your departure, along with a candid account of the effort involved.
• Comfort in encouraging team members to adapt their work habits and the ability to manage resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes necessitate thorough review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven history of developing solutions that your team actively utilized.
• Capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents.
• A strong sense of product design intuition, user empathy, and a commitment to enhancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• A proactive approach to improving the app and codebase beyond requirements.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Successful completion of several technical interviews and an assessment on an actual codebase.
