This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Take full ownership of major features from inception through to release, collaborating closely with Design.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Resolve team members' obstacles by directly investigating impediments.
• Identify reusable solutions and streamline shared components.
• Ensure that shared code remains well-tested, clear, and maintainable.
• Drive improvements in team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize the manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Tackle persistent issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Shift verification processes earlier in the development cycle and broaden automated checks prior to QA.
• Facilitate planning sessions to concentrate the team's efforts on decision-making tasks.
• Establish appropriate review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams, conveying team limitations effectively.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and deliver nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by providing meaningful tasks and opportunities for learning.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership roles or ownership of significant projects while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background processes.
• A solid understanding of the significance of testing and strategies for writing tests, including limitations.
• Proven experience in implementing lasting team practices or changes.
• Comfort in encouraging changes in workflows and managing any resulting friction.
• Ability to discern which changes require extensive review and which do not.
• Documented history of creating tools or solutions utilized by the broader team.
• Capability to articulate how the team collaborates with AI agents.
• Intuition for product design, empathy for users, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond standard specifications.
• Self-motivated to enhance the app and codebase beyond the original specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Submission of portfolio and LinkedIn links is required with the application.
• Experience with open-source Android projects, as well as iOS, Web, or NodeJS, is advantageous but not mandatory.
