This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Take ownership of significant features from concept to release in collaboration with the design team.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Write code, review pull requests, and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist engineers in overcoming obstacles and investigate prolonged technical challenges.
• Identify reusable solutions within the team and consolidate duplicate implementations.
• Ensure shared components are tested, maintained, clear, and consolidated.
• Propose enhancements to team processes.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention during correct releases.
• Resolve recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Promote early verification by expanding automated testing.
• Conduct planning sessions and focus the team's attention on unresolved decisions.
• Establish appropriate review levels and necessary sign-offs.
• Engage in discussions related to Product, Design, and Engineering, raising team constraints proactively.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-focused tasks and development opportunities.
• Minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or managing long-running background tasks.
• Strong understanding of the value of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations.
• Evidence of a contribution to a team that persisted after the candidate ceased promoting it, along with a truthful assessment of its implementation cost.
• Comfort in requesting changes in workflow and managing the resulting friction.
• Ability to discern which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on system behavior.
• Proven history of creating solutions that the team actively utilized.
• Capability to articulate how the team collaborates with AI agents.
• Intuition for product design, user empathy, and a commitment to enhancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• Self-motivation to improve the app and codebase beyond initial specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Inclusion of portfolio and LinkedIn links with the application.
• Open-source Android experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS is an added advantage.
