Team Lead, Android Core Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of significant features from inception to deployment, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.

• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for critical features.

• Conduct pull request reviews and offer constructive feedback.

• Assist engineers in overcoming obstacles and resolving technical issues.

• Recognize reusable solutions and standardize their implementation across the team.

• Maintain shared code, ensuring it is tested, clear, and well-organized.

• Enhance team processes and improve workflows.

• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure proper releases.

• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.

• Shift verification to earlier stages by increasing automated checks prior to QA.

• Lead planning sessions and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.

• Establish review criteria and approval workflows.

• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering.

• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.

• Support early-career engineers by offering learning opportunities.

• Write code, review code, and take a hands-on approach to feature ownership.

• Participate in technical interviews and real-codebase assessments.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, with experience leading a team or managing a significant surface while remaining hands-on.

• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.

• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background processes.

• Understanding of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including the limitations of what can be tested.

• An example of a change you implemented within a team that persisted after your involvement ceased, along with an honest assessment of the effort required to achieve it.

• Comfort with encouraging others to modify their work habits and managing the resulting friction.

• Insight into which changes require extensive review and which do not, supported by an understanding of the system's functionality.

• Proven history of developing solutions that are effectively utilized by the team.

• Ability to explain how your team interacts with AI agents.

• Strong intuition for product design, empathy for users, and a motivation to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the basic specifications.

• Initiative to enhance the app and codebase beyond what is outlined in the specifications.

• Exceptional communication skills.
