This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Take ownership of significant Android features from conception to release, collaborating closely with Design.
• Oversee, enhance, and ensure the reliability metrics of essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist engineers in overcoming challenging problems.
• Standardize effective implementations for the entire team to utilize.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Drive improvements in team processes.
• Minimize manual intervention necessary for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Broaden automated verification so that nightly QA builds can provide assurance.
• Conduct planning focused on unresolved decisions.
• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off protocols.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering, highlighting team constraints early.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and deliver nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through meaningful projects and dedicated learning opportunities.
• A minimum of 5 years in software engineering, including experience leading a team or managing a significant project while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background tasks.
• A solid understanding of the significance of tests and how to approach writing them, including aspects that cannot be tested.
• Proven experience in implementing a lasting team practice or change.
• Comfortable requesting changes in work practices and managing resultant friction.
• Ability to discern which changes require extensive review and which do not.
• A history of building solutions that the rest of the team utilizes.
• Capability to articulate how the team collaborates with AI agents.
• Intuition for product design, user empathy, and a desire to enhance Android UI/UX.
• Self-motivation to improve the app and codebase beyond specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Portfolio and LinkedIn links are requested with the application.
• Completion of several technical interviews and an assessment on a real codebase.
