This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback to team members.
• Assist team members by resolving technical obstacles.
• Standardize shared solutions and eliminate duplicate implementations.
• Maintain shared components to ensure they are well-tested, clear, and reusable.
• Drive changes in team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize manual intervention necessary for successful releases.
• Address recurring issues by modifying the underlying configuration.
• Move verification earlier in the process by increasing automated checks.
• Facilitate planning sessions focused on tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off protocols.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams, communicating team constraints proactively.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for Quality Assurance.
• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-oriented tasks and development opportunities.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant component while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other extended background tasks.
• Deep understanding of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations.
• An example of an initiative you implemented that persisted after your involvement ended, along with an honest assessment of the investment required to achieve it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging others to modify their work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A history of creating solutions that the team genuinely utilizes, rather than only enhancements that benefit you personally.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not solely your individual contributions.
• An intuition for product design, empathy for users, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the application and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
