This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Take full ownership of significant Android features alongside the design team, managing the process from decision-making to release.
• Oversee, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.
• Assist engineers by removing obstacles and resolving technical challenges.
• Identify solutions that can be reused by the team and streamline duplicated implementations.
• Ensure shared code is well-tested, clear, and maintainable.
• Promote enhancements to team processes and work methodologies.
• Minimize the need for manual interventions to ensure accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by refining underlying systems.
• Shift verification processes left and expand automated checks for nightly QA builds.
• Conduct planning sessions and concentrate the team on outstanding decisions.
• Establish review criteria and sign-off procedures.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering, effectively communicating team limitations.
• Manage critical issues, take charge of feature releases, and deliver nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through meaningful assignments and learning opportunities.
• Participate in technical interviews and assessments using a real codebase.
• A minimum of 5 years in software engineering, including experience leading a team or managing a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and the strategies for writing them, including limitations.
• A successful implementation you championed within a team that endured after your departure, along with an honest assessment of the efforts involved.
• Comfort with encouraging colleagues to adapt their workflows and managing any resulting friction.
• An understanding of which changes require extensive review and which do not, supported by insights into system functionality.
• Proven history of developing solutions that your team actively utilizes.
• Ability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents.
• Intuition for product design, empathy for users, and a commitment to elevating Android UI/UX beyond standard specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the application and codebase beyond what is outlined in specifications.
• Strong communication skills.

• Experience with open source Android projects, or with iOS, Web, or NodeJS, is advantageous but not mandatory.
