This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to deployment, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist team members in overcoming obstacles by identifying and resolving blockers.
• Discover reusable solutions and standardize them across the team.
• Ensure shared components are well-tested, clear, and consolidated.
• Drive improvements in team processes.
• Minimize the manual intervention necessary for successful releases.
• Address recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.
• Shift verification left by broadening automated checks prior to QA.
• Facilitate planning sessions and focus the team on tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering, communicating team constraints early on.
• Manage critical issues, take charge of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Support early-career engineers with development-focused tasks and learning opportunities.
• Write, review, and actively manage code ownership of features.
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, including leadership roles or ownership of major projects while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Experience in launching and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations of test coverage.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement, along with an honest reflection on the effort required to achieve it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging team members to adapt their workflows and dealing with the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes necessitate thorough reviews and which do not, based on the functionality of the system.
• A proven history of creating solutions that the team utilizes, not solely those that enhance personal efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your individual approach.
• An intuitive understanding of product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A self-driven approach to enhance the application and codebase beyond what is detailed in the specifications.
