This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist engineers in overcoming obstacles by investigating and resolving technical challenges.
• Identify reusable implementations and streamline shared components.
• Ensure that shared code is thoroughly tested, clear, well-maintained, and consolidated.
• Spearhead modifications to team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize the manual interventions needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by refining underlying systems.
• Advance verification processes by increasing automated checks prior to QA.
• Facilitate planning sessions and direct team focus towards unresolved decisions.
• Establish appropriate review standards and necessary sign-offs.
• Engage in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering, effectively communicating team constraints.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by offering suitable learning opportunities.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leading a team or managing a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Recognize the significance of tests and have a strategic approach to writing them, including understanding their limitations.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that was sustained after your involvement ended, along with a candid account of the effort required to achieve that.
• Some experience with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging colleagues to modify their workflows and managing the resulting friction.
• A perspective on which changes warrant thorough review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven history of developing solutions that your team actively utilized, rather than solely those that improved your personal efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your individual approach.
• An instinct for product design, user empathy, and the motivation to enhance Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A proactive attitude towards improving the app and codebase beyond what is detailed in the specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
