This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
β’ Take full ownership of significant Android features from conception to release, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
β’ Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
β’ Review pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
β’ Assist engineers in overcoming obstacles and investigate stalled projects.
β’ Standardize reusable solutions and ensure maintenance of shared, tested code.
β’ Propel enhancements to team processes and working methodologies.
β’ Minimize the need for manual interventions to ensure proper releases.
β’ Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.
β’ Shift verification activities earlier in the process and broaden automated checks prior to QA.
β’ Lead planning sessions and identify where decisions are necessary.
β’ Establish review levels and required approvals.
β’ Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
β’ Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
β’ Mentor early-career engineers by offering meaningful tasks and learning opportunities.
β’ A minimum of 5 years in software engineering, including experience leading a team or managing a major surface while remaining hands-on.
β’ Expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
β’ Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
β’ A strong understanding of the significance of tests and the methodologies for writing them, including limitations on what can be tested.
β’ An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that continued after your departure, along with a candid account of the effort required to achieve that.
β’ Comfort with the challenging aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits and managing the resulting friction.
β’ A perspective on which changes warrant thorough review and which do not, based on system functionality.
β’ A history of developing solutions that your team actively utilized, rather than solely those that enhanced your own efficiency.
β’ The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, in addition to your personal approach.
β’ A strong intuition for product design, user empathy, and the motivation to elevate Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
β’ A proactive approach to enhancing the app and codebase, extending beyond the outlined specifications.
β’ Exceptional communication abilities.
β’ Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open source Android projects (preferred).
β’ Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS (preferred).
β’ Participation in several technical interviews along with an assessment on a real codebase.
