This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.
• Assist team members in overcoming obstacles and investigate technical challenges.
• Standardize successful practices for team-wide implementation.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Propel improvements in team processes.
• Minimize manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by enhancing underlying systems.
• Shift verification processes earlier and broaden automated testing.
• Organize planning and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish suitable review levels and approval processes.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams, bringing up team constraints at the outset.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for Quality Assurance.
• Mentor early-career engineers by offering them meaningful tasks and learning opportunities.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of testing and strategies for writing tests, including what cannot be tested.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that continued after your involvement ceased, along with an honest account of the effort it took to implement.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role, which include encouraging changes in work practices and managing resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A history of building solutions that your team actively utilized, rather than just those that expedited your own work.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your personal contributions.
• An intuitive understanding of product design, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• A proactive approach to enhancing the application and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Completion of several technical interviews along with an assessment on a real codebase.
