This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Oversee, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist team members by investigating and resolving technical challenges.
• Standardize reusable solutions and eliminate redundant implementations.
• Ensure shared components are tested, clear, and maintainable.
• Propel improvements in team processes.
• Minimize manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by refining the foundational setup.
• Advance verification processes by increasing automated checks prior to QA.
• Conduct planning sessions and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and approval workflows.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by offering them meaningful tasks and learning opportunities.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and the approach to writing them, including aspects that cannot be covered.
• An example of a change you implemented within a team that persisted after your involvement ceased, along with a candid reflection on the costs incurred to achieve it.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in workflows and managing the resulting friction.
• A perspective on which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven history of developing tools that your team actively utilized, rather than solely those that improved your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, in addition to your personal methods.
• An intuitive sense of product design, user empathy, and the ambition to enhance Android UI/UX beyond standard specifications.
• A self-driven approach to enhancing the application and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
