This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Take ownership of major features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist team members in overcoming obstacles by investigating stalled tasks.
• Identify and standardize solutions for collective team use.
• Oversee shared components through testing, documentation, and consolidation efforts.
• Drive improvements in team processes.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure proper releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Shift verification earlier in the process by increasing automated checks.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams, communicating team constraints proactively.
• Address critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for Quality Assurance.
• Mentor early-career engineers through meaningful projects and learning opportunities.
• Write and review code while taking hands-on ownership of features.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including leading a team or owning a significant surface area, while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement ended, along with an honest account of the effort required to implement it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in workflow and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes necessitate thorough review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven record of building tools that your team actively uses, rather than just those that enhance your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your individual contributions.
• An intuition for product design, user empathy, and the motivation to advance Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A proactive approach to enhancing the application and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open-source Android projects (bonus).
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS (bonus).
