This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.
• Take ownership of major features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Oversee, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and give constructive feedback.
• Assist team members by removing obstacles and resolving technical challenges.
• Identify reusable implementations and standardize them within the team.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Lead initiatives to improve team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize the manual intervention required for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Shift verification to earlier stages through increased automation.
• Conduct planning sessions and prioritize tasks that necessitate decisions.
• Establish appropriate review levels and approval processes.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams, communicating team constraints proactively.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for quality assurance.
• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-focused tasks and development opportunities.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, with experience leading a team or owning a significant feature while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-duration background tasks.
• An understanding of the importance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations.
• A successful initiative you introduced to a team that continued after you stopped advocating for it, along with an honest assessment of the costs involved.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• A perspective on which changes require intensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A history of building solutions that your team actually utilized, rather than solely those that improved your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond personal contributions.
• An instinct for product design, empathy for users, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• A self-motivated drive to enhance the application and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
