This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to deployment, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.
• Assist team members by identifying and resolving obstacles that hinder progress.
• Standardize successful implementations for use across the team.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Initiate enhancements to team processes.
• Minimize the manual intervention required for successful releases.
• Address recurring issues at the foundational system level.
• Shift verification left by increasing automated checks prior to QA.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on work that necessitates decision-making.
• Determine suitable review levels and sign-off requirements.
• Engage in discussions related to Product, Design, and Engineering while communicating team constraints.
• Manage critical issues, take charge of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Assist early-career team members through learning opportunities.
• Participate in technical interviews and assessments involving real codebases.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Knowledge of the significance of testing and approaches to writing tests, including limitations.
• An example of a change you introduced to a team that persisted after you stopped advocating for it, along with an honest assessment of the effort required to achieve it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the job: encouraging colleagues to modify their workflows and managing the resultant friction.
• An understanding of which changes require thorough review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven history of building tools that your team actively utilized, rather than solely those that improved your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond just your personal methods.
• A sense of product design intuition, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Outstanding communication skills.
• Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open-source Android projects (bonus).
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS (bonus).
