This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback to team members.
• Assist team members by identifying and resolving blockers.
• Recognize successful implementations for broader team adoption.
• Maintain shared components to ensure they are tested, clear, and integrated.
• Drive improvements in team processes.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention during successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.
• Promote early verification by expanding automated checks prior to QA.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on work that requires decision-making.
• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off protocols.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-oriented tasks and development opportunities.
• Conduct technical interviews and evaluate candidates using a real codebase assessment during the hiring process.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership of a team or ownership of significant projects while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations.
• An example of a change you implemented that sustained after your influence waned, along with a candid assessment of the effort involved.
• Some experience with the challenging aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• A perspective on which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, supported by an understanding of system functionality.
• A history of developing solutions that your team actively utilized, not just those that improved your personal efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your individual practices.
• An intuitive grasp of product design, user empathy, and the motivation to enhance Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• Initiative to enhance the app and codebase beyond the defined specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
