This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Carolina.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer meaningful feedback.
• Assist engineers by addressing and resolving stalled work.
• Standardize successful implementations for the entire team to utilize.
• Ensure shared components are tested, well-maintained, and consolidated.
• Drive improvements in team processes.
• Minimize the manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Shift verification processes left through the use of automated checks.
• Manage planning and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish appropriate review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions related to Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Address critical issues, oversee feature releases, and deliver nightly builds to QA.
• Provide support for early-career engineers through learning opportunities.
• Conduct technical interviews and evaluate a real codebase as part of the hiring process.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, with a background in leading a team or owning a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other forms of long-running background processes.
• A solid understanding of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations of test coverage.
• Demonstrated instance of introducing a lasting change to a team, along with a candid account of the effort required to achieve it.
• Some comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging people to alter their working methods and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight on which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• Proven history of creating tools that are genuinely utilized by the team, rather than solely those that enhance personal efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your individual approach.
• Intuition in product design, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A proactive mindset to enhance the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.

• Bonus: Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open-source Android projects.
