Team Lead, Android Core Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of significant features throughout their lifecycle in collaboration with the design team, from inception to release.

• Manage, enhance, and uphold reliability metrics for essential features.

• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.

• Assist team members in overcoming technical challenges.

• Advocate for successful individual solutions to be adopted team-wide.

• Ensure shared components are tested, well-defined, and consolidated.

• Recognize when the team needs to adjust its operational methods.

• Minimize the manual interventions necessary for successful releases.

• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.

• Broaden automated verification to ensure nightly QA builds provide validation.

• Conduct planning sessions focused on decisions that require attention.

• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off protocols.

• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering, and communicate team limitations proactively.

• Manage critical challenges, take ownership of feature releases, and provide nightly builds to QA.

• Mentor early-career engineers with impactful work and dedicated learning time.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including a leadership role or ownership of a significant surface while maintaining hands-on involvement.

• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.

• Experience in shipping and supporting background audio or other long-running background tasks.

• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including areas that may not be testable.

• An example of an initiative you implemented within a team that persisted after your involvement, along with a candid assessment of the investment required to achieve it.

• Familiarity with requesting colleagues to alter their workflows and managing the accompanying discomfort.

• Capability to discern which modifications necessitate thorough review and which do not, based on system dynamics.

• A history of developing solutions that the rest of the team finds valuable.

• Ability to articulate how the team collaborates with AI agents.

• Intuition for product design, user empathy, and a commitment to enhancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.

• Initiative to refine the application and codebase beyond what is outlined.

• Exceptional communication abilities.

• Experience with open source Android projects, as well as iOS, Web, or NodeJS experience are advantageous.
