Team Lead, Android Core Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of significant features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.

• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.

• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.

• Assist team members by removing obstacles and resolving development challenges.

• Create standardized solutions for the entire team to utilize.

• Maintain well-tested, clear, and unified shared components.

• Drive improvements in team processes and workflows.

• Minimize manual interventions needed for successful releases.

• Tackle recurring issues at their root cause.

• Increase automation in verification processes and shift testing to earlier stages.

• Conduct planning sessions and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.

• Establish review criteria and approval responsibilities.

• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.

• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds to QA.

• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-focused tasks and allow time for skill development.

• Write, review, and take hands-on ownership of code and features.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including experience leading a team or owning a key feature while remaining hands-on.

• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.

• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background processes.

• Knowledge of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations of test coverage.

• A successful initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement, along with a candid account of the effort required to implement it.

• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging change in work practices and managing the resulting challenges.

• Insight into which changes necessitate thorough reviews and which do not, based on the system's functionality.

• A proven history of developing solutions that your team actively utilized, not just those that improved your own efficiency.

• The ability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your personal contributions.

• A strong sense of product design, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond basic specifications.

• A proactive approach to enhancing the application and codebase beyond what is outlined in specifications.

• Exceptional communication skills.

• Successful completion of several technical interviews, along with an assessment on an actual codebase.
