Team Lead, Android Core Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.

• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.

• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.

• Assist engineers by identifying and resolving technical challenges.

• Standardize effective solutions for the entire team to utilize.

• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.

• Lead enhancements to team processes.

• Minimize the need for manual intervention in ensuring correct releases.

• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.

• Expand automated verification processes and prioritize early testing.

• Conduct planning sessions focused on unresolved decisions.

• Establish review criteria and sign-off responsibilities.

• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.

• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.

• Mentor early-career engineers by offering learning opportunities and guidance.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership roles or managing major projects while remaining hands-on.

• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.

• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.

• Awareness of the significance of tests and a strategic approach to writing them, including limitations.

• An example of a successful initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement, along with an honest assessment of the effort required.

• Some familiarity with the challenging aspects of the role: encouraging team members to modify their workflows and managing the resulting friction.

• An informed perspective on which changes require thorough review and which do not, based on system functionality.

• A history of creating tools and solutions that your team genuinely utilized, rather than solely those that enhanced your own efficiency.

• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your personal workflow.

• Intuition for product design, user empathy, and the motivation to elevate Android UI/UX beyond standard specifications.

• A proactive approach to improving the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.

• Exceptional communication abilities.

• Completion of several technical interviews and an assessment on a real codebase.
