This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Rhode Island.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to deployment, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist team members in overcoming obstacles and resolving technical challenges.
• Identify reusable solutions and standardize their implementation across the team.
• Maintain a well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared codebase.
• Propel improvements in team workflows.
• Minimize the need for manual interventions to ensure accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational systems.
• Advance verification processes by increasing automated checks.
• Conduct planning sessions and prioritize tasks that necessitate decision-making.
• Establish appropriate review tiers and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams, articulating team constraints effectively.
• Manage critical issues, take charge of feature releases, and deliver nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by assigning learning-focused tasks and development time.
• Write and review code, actively owning features through hands-on involvement.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant project while remaining hands-on.
• Proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-duration background tasks.
• Awareness of the significance of testing and approaches to writing tests, including limitations.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that endured after your involvement ceased, along with an honest assessment of the effort it took to implement.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits and managing the associated friction.
• Insight into which changes require thorough review and which do not, supported by an understanding of the system's functionality.
• A history of creating solutions that are utilized by the team, rather than just enhancing personal efficiency.
• Capability to explain how your team interacts with AI agents, not just your personal approach.
• An intuitive sense of product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• A self-motivated approach to enhance the app and codebase beyond what is detailed in specifications.
• Strong communication abilities.
• Completion of several technical interviews along with an assessment on an actual codebase.
